VICAR of TWICKENHAM, And formerly of Wadham College, Oxford, DECEASED; Author of History of Astronomy; Observations on the Book of Job, and other Works of Science and Criticism. The Oriental Books and MSS. in this Collection, it is presumed, are particularly deserving the Attention of the Learned and Curious. TO WHICH IS ADDED, The small STUDY of BOOKS, Chiefly ENGLISH, And Collection of PRINTS and Books of PRINTS, OF A GENTLEMAN, Including a fine Series of ENGLISH PORTRAITS, to the Number of about 600, methodically digested. Which will be sold by AUCTION, By Mr. PATERSON, At his GREAT ROOM, No. 6 King-Street, Covert-Garden, London, On Tuesday, March 19, 1782, and the Tree following Evenings. To begin precisely at Six o'Clock. To be viewed on Saturday the 16th Instant, and to the Time of Sale. Catalogues may be had gratis at the Place of Sale.

Preface and paratexts

CONDITIONS of SALE. I. THE highest Bidder will be declared the Buyer; but if any Dispute shall arise the Lot must be put up again. / II. No Bidder is to advance less than three-pence under ten Shillings; above ten Shillings, six-pence; above one Pound, one Shilling. / III. Every Purchaser is to pay down five Shillings in the Pound as Earnest in part of Payment, and to give in his Name and Place of abode. / IV. The Books are presumed to be perfect, unless otherwise expressed; but if upon collating at the Place of Sale, any should prove imperfect, the Purchaser will be at Liberty to take or reject them. / V. The Lots are to be removed at the Buyers Expence, within three Days after the Sale, and the Remainder of the Money paid on the Delivery, upon Forfeiture of the Deposit. / Gentlemen who cannot attend the Sale, may have their Commissions faithfully executed by their most humble Servant, / SAMUEL PATERSON.|[vignette] A Catalogue of the Study of Books and Prints of a Gentleman.[after N@465]
